Excisions
If a skin lesion or unusual mole is noticed by a doctor during a skin check or consult, they may recommend a biopsy is performed to remove it. If a biopsy is performed and the results of the skin lesion confirms a skin cancer, an excision may be advised. A larger sample of skin is taken (than what was taken in your previous biopsy) with the aim of removing the skin cancer completely.
Excisions are done in a similar way to biopsies. We assure that you are fully informed with the process and aware of the size of the excision site before it’s commenced. Local anaesthetic is administered under the skin of the area which is being excised and will take a few minutes to be effective. The lesion will be excised and stitches are used to close the wound. A follow-up appointment to receive the results and remove the stitches will be booked.
